Rafa charged by FA for his comments

Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez has been charged with improper conduct by the Football Association following his remarks in the wake of the Reds' 2-1 defeat at Tottenham. Benitez was critical of the match officials after seeing his side defeated at White Hart Lane on August 16, a game which saw two claims for a penalty from his side waived away.

Benoit Assou-Ekotto appeared to bundle Liverpool striker Andriy Voronin in the penalty area as Liverpool chased an equaliser, before Reds players claimed that the same player handled the ball.

Benitez was quoted as saying after the match: "I think everyone could see there was a penalty, especially to Voronin, it was so clear.

"The penalty appeal was so clear, it was unbelievable. Can you get two penalties at an away ground? No. With this referee (Phil Dowd), I knew that this was impossible."

Benitez has two weeks to respond to the charge.
